Program Description:

Social media technologies are continuously transforming the ways human interact with each other at the national and international level. These changes constitute a fundamental shift in the media landscape and allow students to have greater opportunities to voice their opinions and connect with each other for an increased influence over ideology and communications. As a result, the conventional approaches to Social Media communications have become more and more challenged. This puts an added emphasis on leveraging social media to engage users and propagate ideas, messages, products, and behaviours.

BS Social Media program takes an in-depth look at the relationship between Social media, society at the global level, theories, Social media research, mobile technologies and the impact on human behaviour and lifestyle, and examines how users capitalize on social media and how the stakeholders interact, to support their ideas and opinion. This program is being offered in two areas of specialization, namely Social Media and Digital Media Communication.

Students will get hands-on experience in creating comprehensive social media knowledge, communication outlook. Students will have to choose Internship in a media organization as part of the degree program; which will be worth 3 Credit Hours. Students will also choose one of the specialization fields to do a professional project, independently. The professional project will be worth 3 Credit hours.

 

Career Prospects:

Social Media career opportunities are not only existing in the media industry but in the business and tech industry locally, regionally, nationally and internationally, advertising industry and public relations, and media research centres. This degree will enable the students to work in marketing, public relations, digital communication, digital strategy, or a related field. Job titles can vary by company, level of education, and experience level. Some common job titles include:

Program Objectives:

The overall aims of this course are to introduce students to skills of social media tools in context to its emergence with media science. It also aims to introduce key concepts and social platforms that have changed the media scenario that it used to be. Using the representation of the virtual community as a focus, students will be introduced to ideas of the collective resourcing, user-defined contents, Web 2.0, media production and reporting in social media.

  • FSc (Pre-Engineering / Pre-Medical)
  • FA (Intermediate with Arts or General Science)
  • Advanced Levels (A’ Levels)
  • American High school or equivalent
  • Minimum 45% or equivalent marks in intermediate or equivalent qualification

The Admission Office at GIFT University deals with the enquiries concerning admissions. The prospective candidates are advised to consult this office during working hours of the University.

 

General Criteria to Apply

  • The candidate fulfills the eligibility conditions of the program.
  • The candidate must have earned the eligibility qualification from a recognized educational institution.
  • Good proficiency in English language.
  • The candidate has not been debarred on disciplinary grounds during his earlier educational career.
 

Admission Application

  • Applications for admissions are invited through advertisement in the media. The prospective candidates are advised to obtain the University Prospectus, Application Form and Admission Schedule from the Admissions Office. They may make queries to the officer on duty for further information.
  • Admission Application should be submitted together with all required documents within the prescribed time limit in the Student Affairs Centre Admissions Office.
  • Online Applicants can apply just by filling the required fields of Online Application Form. Their documents will be verified at the day of admissions test and interview.
  • After admission test and interview, the Admission Committee will advise the successful candidates to deposit fee and other dues in the Accounts Office within the specified time limit.
  • On payment of fee and dues, the Accounts Office will issue the Registration Number to the candidate. at least two days prior to the commencement of the semester.
