The founder of this august
institution Mr. Anwar Dar had to leave his education
incomplete to support his economically impoverished
family. He was born in 1956 in a business family
of Gujranwala. The
son of an experienced businessman, Mr. Muzaffar
Ahmed Dar, Anwar Dar saw the tides of his family
fortune change at the age of 17 when he was studying
at Government College Gujranwala to earn his FSc.
in pre-engineering. He thus left his education in
1973 to take up a trivial job. However these hardships
instead of dampening his spirit served as an impetus
to further strengthen his resolve to grow and excel
in his life. Mr. Dar thus started his own business
in currency exchange in 1975. |

Mr. Anwar Dar is today a prominent
personality of Gujranwala. He is a visionary leader,
a renowned philanthropist and a prominent businessman.
His vibrant personality and dynamic leadership has
helped several organizations thrive and grow under
his management. He is the Chairman of a progressive
business conglomerate i.e., Credence Group. The
group has a diversified portfolio and operates in
the areas of financial services, stock trading,
education, poultry feed & medicine, and manufacturing. |

Mr. Anwar Dar always had a
strong urge to rise above himself and do something
valuable for the community at large. In 1999 he
conceived the idea of Roshni Homes. Roshni Homes
is an unconventional place of shelter for the orphaned
and abandoned children. The spirit of Roshni Homes
is to provide these destitute children with the
best education and home like environment (with mother
and siblings) so that it can lead to the balanced
development of their intellectual, moral and psychological
traits. Hence instead of becoming criminals and
terrorists these children become useful and productive
members of the society. This project has so far
produced exemplary results. Initiated as a research
project, Roshni Homes now serves as a model for
the establishment of modern orphan houses. |

Having suffered the agony
of leaving his education incomplete, Mr. Dar established
GIFT University Gujranwala on 2nd July 2002. The
objective was that the students of his commercially
developed but educationally backward native town
can gain access to the modern professional education.
The university offers various merit and need based
scholarships to ensure that those aspiring to get
higher education are never deprived of this opportunity.
As the result of his dedicated efforts, within a
short span of time, the University has developed
into a center of excellence in professional learning
in the region. The University is chartered by the
Government of Punjab and recognized by Higher Education
Commission. |
