Scholarship And Advantage Policy

GIFT University acknowledges the efforts made by students to advance their education and the desire to learn more. To accommodate students who excel in their field, or brave the challenges of reality and strive to continue their education, GIFT University offers scholarships and financial assistance in different forms to eligible students. If a student qualifies to receive more than one scholarship/financial assistance, he/she will be awarded one with the maximum benefit. Unless specified otherwise, the information applies to all programs offered by the University.

SCHOLARSHIPS

 

The Scholarship program is designed for talented students and the scholarship is awarded on the basis of educational performance. GIFT University offers the students a number of scholarships:

1. Quaid-e-Azam Scholarship

This is the most prestigious scholarship offered by GIFT University to a student who secures the first position in the examination of a Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE) or in the Bachelor’s degree program of Punjab University or in the Associate Degree Program (equal to or greater than 3.9 CGPA) of GIFT University and who then immediately seeks admission to GIFT University. The scholarship covers 100% of tuition and admission fee, hostel fee and a stipend of Rs 10,000 per annum for books allowance (would be sanctioned as per actual bills).

2. Fatima Jinnah Scholarship

This scholarship extends to those who secure 2nd or 3rd position in the examination of a Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education or of Punjab University in a bachelor’s degree and who then immediately seeks admission to GIFT University. These students would be given up to 100% tuition and admission fee waivers.

3. Merit and Industry Scholarships

In order to recognize and reward the academic achievements of applicants, merit as well as industry scholarships are offered simultaneously to eligible applicants based on results in Intermediate for undergrad programs and fourteen/sixteen years Graduation Examinations (or equivalent) for undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate program of study. The details of Scholarship Scheme are as follows:

4. Performance-Based Certificates

Certificates of appreciation will be given to all students who score 1st and 2nd position in their program and session only. For example, for a certificate of appreciation 1st and 2nd position will be picked only from BS Business Administration Spring 2017. They will not be merged with any other batch for certification.

5. Advantage for GIFT University Alumni

Students of GIFT University can avail advantage and get a 50% concession on tuition fee for undergraduate or master’s degree (16 Years) programs. For Alumni who wish to further enhance their education through postgraduate (MPhil, MS & PhD) programs, a 30% advantage in Tuition Fee is offered. This discount will not apply to Alumni of Associate Degree Holders of GIFT University. However, they are encouraged to apply for other GIFT University advantage scholarships.

This advantage is only applicable if the last degree of Alumni is from GIFT University. However, it will be applicable during normal time duration of the program/discipline. For its related information, consult the terms and conditions given at the end of this policy.

6. Advantage for GIFT College Alumni

We own the community of GIFT Colleges and the Alumni are welcomed with a direct concession of 50% on their University tuition fee if they immediately seek admission in GIFT University. This advantage is only applicable if the last degree of Alumni is from GIFT College. However, this advantage will be applicable during normal/regular time duration of the program/discipline. 7. Advantage for Kin of GIFT University Students

The kin of GIFT University students are as much a part of GIFT Family as anyone else. To honor this relation, the GIFT Advantage is also offered with the generous concession on tuition fee of 50% when they join GIFT University in associate/undergraduate programs and 30% fee concession in tuition fee who wish to enhance their education through postgraduate (MPhil, MS & PhD) Programs. This advantage is applicable as long as the student and kin are concurrently studying in University. This advantage is also extended in case of a semester freeze of student for up to a year (two semesters). However, this advantage will be applicable during normal/regular time duration of the program/discipline. 8. Advantage for Kin of GIFT University Alumni

Kin of GIFT University alumni can also avail the advantage of a generous concession on tuition fee of 50% when they join GIFT University in associate/undergraduate programs and 30% fee concession in tuition fee who wish to enhance their education through postgraduate (MPhil, MS & PhD) Programs. However, this advantage will be applicable during normal/regular time duration of the program/discipline. 9. Advantage For University Employees and/or Immediate Family Members of University Employees

GIFT University provides tuition fee waivers to students who are employees of GIFT University and whose continuous successful service duration is minimum of 2 years. The employees have to follow University rules for processing their application through department and refer to terms and conditions mentioned in Annexure I. This tuition fee waiver also extends to the students who are sons, daughters or spouses of full-time employees of GIFT University, and who wish to pursue an undergraduate/graduate or post graduate degree at GIFT University. Following are the fee waiver details as per the service tenure and salary of the employees:

10. Advantage for GIFT Colleges Employees and/or Immediate Family Members of Colleges Employees

GIFT University provides tuition fee waivers to faculty of GIFT College Gujranwala who wants to pursue graduate or post graduate degree at GIFT University. The faculty have to follow the University rules for processing their application through College. The tuition fee waiver covers 50% of tuition fee provided that he/she must secure the admission in GIFT University. However, this advantage will be applicable during normal/regular time duration of the program/discipline. 11. Advantage for Orphans

One of the most saddening things for a person is to lose parents. GIFT University shares their pain and strives to support these souls to help them stand on their feet. To this regard, the University offers a special concession 100% on tuition fee of needy orphans if he/she joins GIFT University other than postgraduate programs. However, this advantage will be applicable during normal/regular time duration of the program/discipline. 12. Advantage For Employees Sponsored By A Government Authority

GIFT University provides tuition fee waivers to employees who have been sponsored by a Government authority to pursue an undergraduate or a graduate degree at GIFT University. The minimum requirement for these tuition fee waivers is that the student must have scored at least 60% or CGPA of 2.5 in the Intermediate or in the Bachelor’s examination respectively. The tuition fee waiver covers 25% of tuition fee. However, it will be applicable during normal time duration of the program/discipline. 13. Advantage For Disable Students

GIFT University provides the tuition fee waiver to disable students who want to pursue their Undergraduate, Graduate or Postgraduate Study in GIFT University. The fee waiver covers 50% of tuition fee provided that he/she must secure the admission in GIFT University. Two seats are reserved based on first come first served. However, it will be applicable during normal time duration of the program/discipline. For its related information, consult the terms and conditions given at the end of this policy.

14. Financial Assistance for Needy and Talented Students

GIFT University provides financial assistance to needy and talented students who wish to pursue an undergraduate/graduate/postgraduate degree at GIFT University. The magnitude of financial assistance depends upon assessment of the students need. It may range from 10% to 60%. To apply for Financial Assistance, the student must have scored 55% or above marks (60% or above for the BEE program) or their equivalent in his/her latest examination and he/she must also be able to demonstrate through documentary evidence that he/she needs financial assistance. For application and continuation of this assistance please observe the table in terms and conditions.

15. Earn While You Learn Scheme

GIFT University also provides support to needy and talented students by providing them opportunity of “Earn While You Learn”. University offers specific tasks or jobs to the selected students who are then compensated monetarily by adjusting their fee. There may be flexible 20 hours per week working model. For students seeking the scheme in the first semester, they will not be given tasks that will impact their studies. This is to ensure that they get a grip on GIFT environment and its workings. They will be properly deployed in the second semester with a proper work load. Continuation of the scheme beyond the second semester will be the responsibility of the student that he/she has to contact the Advantage Office for deployment.

For Earn While You Learn, the students are also advised to observe the proper jobs opening announcements followed by selection process of the University. This scheme will further facilitate students on top of any scholarship or tuition fee waiver. For its related information, consult the terms and conditions given at the end of this policy.

16. Interest-Free Loans

GIFT University also provides interest-free loans to existing needy students who are studying in undergraduate and graduate programs. The requirement for these loans is that the student must have a minimum CGPA of 2.5 and must be able to demonstrate through documentary evidence that he/she needs a loan. The magnitude of the loan depends upon assessment of the student’s need. The loan is granted subject to several conditions including the applicant being able to provide a post-dated signed cheque by an acceptable guarantor.

17. External Scholarships and Funding Opportunities

There are several external funding options when it comes to financing students at GIFT University. In addition to the scholarships awarded by the University, we also facilitate our students in securing funding opportunities through various external sources such as the government, industry, various clubs, unions, societies, trusts, foundations and other organizations.

The rules and regulations regarding these scholarships are defined by the specific funding organizations themselves and will be followed accordingly.

Note: Eligible Students’ are liable to apply for such scholarships and funding opportunities. If a student receives funding from other source, said amount of fee waiver and/or scholarship allowances given by GIFT may be adjusted accordingly.

 

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

 

a. All scholarship, tuition fee waivers, and financial assistance will initially be awarded for one semester except for Associate and Undergraduate Programs where these are awarded for first two semesters. The scholarship will be renewed for the subsequent semester according to the following criteria;

1. For Continuation of Merit and Industrial Scholarship

In case of Merit and Industrial scholarship, if the CGPA falls below 2.8, the scholarship would be withdrawn or reduced according to the reduction formula table given below.

Note: To avail merit scholarship along with above table student must have enrolled in minimum 9 Credit Hours in a semester in case of Undergraduate/Graduate program and minimum 6 Credit Hours in case of Post-Graduate Programs.

 

2. For Continuation of Financial Assistance

In case of Financial Assistance, it will be continued if the CGPA of a student is equal to or greater than his/her degree’s passing requirement and student must have enrolled in minimum 9 Credit Hours in a semester in case of Undergraduate/Graduate programs and minimum 6 credit hours in case of Post-Graduate programs. However, it will be applicable during normal time duration of the program/discipline.

b. Students must apply for tuition fee waiver, financial assistance or loan on the prescribed form (available in student facilitation center) together with supporting documents to Students Financial Advisor (SFA) at GIFT University at least two weeks before the commencement of Semester provided that he/she obtained at-least 2.75 CGPA in case of tuition fee waiver and Financial Assistance and 2.5 CGPA in case of loan. No application will be accepted after this deadline.

c. A student may apply for multiple assistantships. However, he/she is eligible to receive only one form of scholarship/FA/tuition fee waiver that provides the maximum benefit to him/her.

d. The merit scholarship criteria mentioned in Graduate Programs’ table will be applicable for the Students completing their AD programs and who are seeking admission in any program of GIFT University.

e. All scholarships, tuition fee waivers and financial assistance, may be reduced or withdrawn if student is on any kind of warning.

f. All fee waivers mentioned in Advantage section, except those for which explicitly the revision terms has been defined separately, will be continued during normal degree duration.

g. Any kind of scholarship, tuition fee waiver (GIFT Advantage) and Financial Assistance will also be waived off on the expiry of degree duration.

h. Any scholarship, tuition fee waiver (GIFT Advantage) and financial assistance will not be applicable on its thesis fee, thesis supervision, evaluation and other related fee.

i. For All MPhil/MS and PhD Programs Thesis viva and evaluation fee will be charged separately above to the fee mentioned in the fee structure at the time of viva and evaluation as per the magnitude of actual spending at times. However, fee due at the time of registration of dissertation is included in the fee structure.

j. The student as well as his/her guardian must sign a statement acknowledging the above conditions.

k. The University has the right to amend, change, edit or delete any part or full of its rules and regulations.

 

“ANNEXURE I”

a. Fee waivers for employees are subject to the following conditions:

1. The employee has established eligibility by seeking prior recommendations from the concerned department head/supervisor.

2. The employee must satisfy all admission requirements and by completing any or all prerequisite courses, and has followed established registration procedures.

3. The employee must work the prescribed percent of time for which employed. Time taken for class attendance must be made up, based upon an arrangement with the supervisor and department head. Courses should be taken outside the normal working hours/days. The needs of the office shall be considered by the supervisor and the department head in approving class time or make-up time during or after the normal working hours/days.

4. If there is any difference in other than normal working hours, will be finalized with the coordination of the HR department and supervisor/head of department.

5. If an employee has completed his/her degree, admission in next program would be with the subject to the recommendation of supervisor/department head and the approval of the admission committee as mentioned in point “b”.

6. Bond: As employee education is funded by the University, the employee shall be required to stay with the University within these years or till completion of study program, which may be two or more than two years (or as equivalent number of years study program enrolled) or as the decision of the management, which may vary case to case.

7. If an employee leaves the institution on fair conditions for an unavoidable reason and his/her education is still in process, the employee will be treated as an ex-employee where he/she shall be liable to pay 50% of the fee.

b. Fees are not waived for external examiner & viva, extended education program and paid workshops.

c. The employee shall be responsible to inform his/her supervisor/department head about the examination schedule prior to 1 week. At the day of examination an employee shall be given relief to appear in the exam if it is during official working hours.

d. Except instructional services, the employees are not entitled to participate in extra-curricular activities.

e. The top management will have the sole discretion to accept, reject or defer any request for admission without assigning any reason.

f. The top management will have the sole discretion to accept or reject the request before the required service period on case to case basis.

g. The policy will be reviewed yearly.
