Program Description:

To enhance the analytical skills and economic reasoning, in line with market needs, MPhil Economics program is being offered under the faculty of Business & Commerce of GIFT University, Gujranwala. This degree will provide the support to the industrial sector and the community through original research in wide verity of areas, along with the high quality education in field of economics and econometrics. First year of this degree program will provide rigorous training of four elective economic courses along with the core area of microeconomics, macroeconomics, econometrics and research. Student will write a dissertation on real life problems or varying industrial issues in the second year of MPhil Program.

Program Objectives:

The main objectives of these degrees are

  • to provide an integrated knowledge of theory and practical in advance fields of Economics
  • to provide advanced and specialized study in Economics for further learning and research
  • to prepare the students for critical analysis of the current issues and enable them for further discussion
  • to provide a bridge for students willing to study Doctor of Philosophy (PhD)
  • to prepare experts in the field of economics capable of resolving different challenges in all fields of life

Career Prospects:

Two-year MPhil program is an advance level Masters in Economics by Research degree gives an excellent starting point for PhD with similar skill set. This degree is an achievement and an importance piece of research in its own right. It creates knowledge and leads to the development of methods and testing the robustness of existing theories. After completion best career is to go for PhD. Mostly students, obtain a PhD position in different university at the Faculty of Economics/ Business or at one of the other participating faculties. However, this is not the only way, and graduates with MS/MPhil degree can track their professions as researcher, analysts and an academicians. These higher level degrees provide an excellent foundation for those, planning careers in consultancy or policy advice.

Admissions Eligibility Criteria:

The University offers this two year degree program for the graduate candidates, from academia and corporate sectors interested in enhancing their qualification with the upbringing of economics or other related at-least 16 years of education, for example, MA/ MSc. Economics with 16 years, BSc Economics (16 years), BSc Accounting & Finance (16 Years), BBA with Finance (16 Years) etc.

Requirement for the entry in MS Program is 2.50 CGPA for candidates from semester system or 50% from annual system. 

Note: The students fulfilling either of the above mentioned requirements will then be required to appear in a test designed by the University or have already passed NTS. The short listed candidates will be made to appear in an interview and students clearing that interview would be selected.

Enquiries

The Admission Office at GIFT University deals with the enquiries concerning admissions. The prospective candidates are advised to consult this office during working hours of the University.

 

General Criteria to Apply

  • The candidate fulfills the eligibility conditions of the program.
  • The candidate must have earned the eligibility qualification from a recognized educational institution.
  • Good proficiency in English language.
  • The candidate has not been debarred on disciplinary grounds during his earlier educational career.

Admission Application

  • Applications for admissions are invited through advertisement in the media. The prospective candidates are advised to obtain the University Prospectus, Application Form and Admission Schedule from the Admissions Office. They may make queries to the officer on duty for further information.
  • Admission Application should be submitted together with all required documents within the prescribed time limit in the Student Affairs Centre Admissions Office.
  • Online Applicants can apply just by filling the required fields of Online Application Form. Their documents will be verified at the day of admissions test and interview.
  • After admission test and interview, the Admission Committee will advise the successful candidates to deposit fee and other dues in the Accounts Office within the specified time limit.
  • On payment of fee and dues, the Accounts Office will issue the Registration Number to the candidate. at least two days prior to the commencement of the semester.
