Program Objectives:

With the rising demand of English language teachers at higher levels of education, GIFT University has launched a broad based program which caters to the needs of the market. The program is basically designed for researchers and English language teachers who want to enhance their knowledge, teaching skills and research abilities in the field of English literature and linguistics. In addition to the taught courses, the M Phil program provides a unique opportunity to the students to excel in the field of research in a highly competitive environment so that they may pursue doctoral research projects in Pakistan and abroad.

 

Program Description:

M Phil English is an intensive research degree program that provides its students a strong grounding both in Linguistics and Literature. The program encourages independent reading, observation and analysis; thus preparing the students for academic research at the highest level. Overall, it is a well-rounded and thorough program that will enhance a student’s knowledge in language and literature. GIFT University engages some of the best known teachers and researchers to teach and supervise various research projects at M Phil level. In addition to on-campus teaching and research activities, GIFT provides academic and logistic support to the students to participate in various conferences, attend seminars and engage with other institutes of higher learning.

 

Career Opportunities:

The M Phil English program opens up career prospects in higher education in Pakistan. It prepares the graduates for a diverse range of professional fields including teaching, journalism, law, publishing, fashion and the fine arts. The graduates also pursue careers in creative writing and a host of public and private sector fields, from content design to research and consulting, that requires analytical thinking and advanced writing skills. Students of the department of English enter a variety of fields including civil services, educational administration, translation, public relations, creative art, advertising and media (T.V., film, radio, newspapers, magazines, blogs etc.).

 

Eligibility Criteria:

Graduates holding MA English, MA English Language Teaching (ELT), MA Teaching of English as Foreign Language (TEFL) degrees or any other equivalent qualification recognized by the HEC with minimum second division or 2.50 CGPA are eligible to apply.
Applicants with additional qualifications such as a relevant post-graduate diploma or teaching experience in the relevant field will be given preference. Admission will be awarded strictly on merit determined on the basis of the applicant’s previous academic record and performance in the interview.

More specific admission criteria is as follows

  1. The prospective students will have to appear in a written admission test.
  2. The students who clear the written admission test will have to appear before a departmental committee for interview.
  3. Only those who meet the minimum eligibility criteria and clear written and oral tests are recommended for admission.

Note: The students fulfilling either of the above mentioned requirements will then be required to appear in a test designed by the University. The short listed candidates will be made to appear in an interview and students clearing that interview would be selected.

Enquiries

The Admission Office at GIFT University deals with the enquiries concerning admissions. The prospective candidates are advised to consult this office during working hours of the University.

 

General Criteria to Apply

  • The candidate fulfills the eligibility conditions of the program.
  • The candidate must have earned the eligibility qualification from a recognized educational institution.
  • Good proficiency in English language.
  • The candidate has not been debarred on disciplinary grounds during his earlier educational career.

Admission Application

  • Applications for admissions are invited through advertisement in the media. The prospective candidates are advised to obtain the University Prospectus, Application Form and Admission Schedule from the Admissions Office. They may make queries to the officer on duty for further information.
  • Admission Application should be submitted together with all required documents within the prescribed time limit in the Student Affairs Centre Admissions Office.
  • Online Applicants can apply just by filling the required fields of Online Application Form. Their documents will be verified at the day of admissions test and interview.
  • After admission test and interview, the Admission Committee will advise the successful candidates to deposit fee and other dues in the Accounts Office within the specified time limit.
  • On payment of fee and dues, the Accounts Office will issue the Registration Number to the candidate. at least two days prior to the commencement of the semester.
