Program Objectives:

Fashion has always been an energetic and a challenging discipline, where people learn to explore, discover, imagine, and create. The skilled designers reflect, predict and modify the fashion, which influences everyone’s life. This fact makes Fashion Design studies exciting, creative and challenging. School of Fine Art, Design and Architecture, (SFADA) at GIFT University, has emerged as one of the premier institutes in Pakistan, which is renowned for its excellence in Fashion Design studies. HEC approved curriculum, experienced faculty, state of the art infrastructure, active liaison with fashion brands and its alumni emerging in fashion industry are hall marks of SFADA.

 

Program Description:

The program provides a curriculum thoroughly designed and approved by HEC, Pakistan. The degree is aimed to provide knowledge and skills required to a select broad range of career opportunities in Fashion (women’s wear, men’s wear and fashion textiles) and an understanding of the vital social, cultural, historical and business concepts, relevant to contemporary fashion. The graduates develop skills required to perform, research, build up initial design ideas, and develop designs through a finished 3D prototype as well as design skills through interactive and vigorous assignments. After this degree the students have a broad understanding of Textile surface treatment techniques and an awareness and practice of tools and techniques of CAD, pattern cutting, draping, sewing and illustration. This program gives corporate internships with leading fashion labels, brands and textile mills, an atmosphere that encourage students, participating in prestigious national and international competitions for young designers. The students are given an opportunity and atmosphere, to develop individual portfolios, reflecting personal design philosophies which helps in effective career development and dedicated job placement in the field of interest in fashion industry.

What you will learn/ Programme Objective:

  • The skills required to perform research, build-up initial design ideas and develop designs as a finished 3D prototype
  • How to develop an individual portfolio reflecting your personal design philosophies and have it reviewed by a jury of industry professionals
  • An understanding of the social, cultural, historical and business concepts relevant to contemporary fashion

  • Awareness and practice of tools and techniques of CAD, pattern cutting, draping, sewing and illustration, being practiced in Fashion industry.

 

Programme Details:

The programme provides a mix of textile and fashion design courses along with foundation courses that help you improve with your drawing, sketching and understand the basic of art and fashion. The highlights of the programme include participation in the Social Internship Project, a professional internship at a fashion or apparel brand and a thesis towards the end of the programme. To develop our students as design professionals, we have put in place a sophisticated Design and Textile studio equipped with the latest equipment and tools which include up-to-date software and different machinery. During these four years you will get the chance to interact with the local and international fashion industry by attending fashion shows like the Pakistan Fashion Week as well as international fashion shows held around the world. 

 

Foreign qualified faculty

Our faculty members are a true asset to us as they bring invaluable international exposure and experience to SFADA. This includes studying and working in places like Italy, ‘The Mecca of the Fashion Industry’ and Ireland which makes our faculty members a great source of practical/ theoretical knowledge for our students.

 

High Technology Textile Studios

GIFT University features four high technology studios that have been especially designed to aid students enrolled in textile and design courses. The studios include a design studio, drawing studio for screen-printing and concept boards, a swing studio with the latest stitching machines and a weaving studio that instructs students in the basics of weaving. These studios enhance student’s understanding of the textile industry and help them practically test their concept and skills. SHOW PICS

Exhibitions and Fashion shows

SFADA participates in exhibitions and fashion shows to provide professional experience to its students. Few of the events are as below

  • Annual Fashion Show by House of Nayna

 

International Fashion Show

SFADA participated in International Conference for Apparel and Fashion in Sri Lanka in 2015 with its faculty and students. It was a 10 days trip which included the conference on apparel and fashion, fashion show, visit to arts and craft sights, fashion schools and sightseeing areas of the country.

 

Internal Activities

SFADA conducts various activities to promote and encourage its students. Few of them are as below:

  • Department exhibitions under Credence competition

 

Seminars by designers:

Another way of keeping our students in touch with the latest fashion trends is to organise guest seminars from leading designers such as our MNR, one of our bright alumni. Below are few of the highlights of his contributions

 

  • Conducted a workshop on “Contemporary trends in the fashion Industry”.
  • Contributed as a jury member for varies activities
  • Supported in providing internships for the current students
  • Helped the department in job placement of graduating students
  • Contributed in running Students Entrepreneurial Shop in 2015-16.

  • Minimum Eligibility: Intermediate or equivalent with minimum 45% marks in Matric as well as Intermediate.
  • Admissions Criteria:
    • Admission will be based upon the previous academic performance
    • Merit will be determined according to the following formula:

Matric 20%, Intermediate 50%, Test 30 %.

Enquiries

The Admission Office at GIFT University deals with the enquiries concerning admissions. The prospective candidates are advised to consult this office during working hours of the University.

General Criteria to Apply

  • The candidate fulfills the eligibility conditions of the program.
  • The candidate must have earned the eligibility qualification from a recognized educational institution.
  • Good proficiency in English language.
  • The candidate has not been debarred on disciplinary grounds during his earlier educational career.

Admission Application

  • Applications for admissions are invited through advertisement in the media. The prospective candidates are advised to obtain the University Prospectus, Application Form and Admission Schedule from the Admissions Office. They may make queries to the officer on duty for further information.
  • Admission Application should be submitted together with all required documents within the prescribed time limit in the Student Affairs Centre.
  • After admission test and interview, the Admission Committee will advise the successful candidates to deposit fee and other dues in the Accounts Office within the specified time limit.
  • On payment of fee and dues, the Accounts Office will issue the Registration Number to the candidate at least two days prior to the commencement of the semester.
