The GIFT Linguistics Society (GLS) is a proficient society dedicated to the scholarly study of the languages. Its primary goal is to further interest in and support for linguistics research and language teaching in Pakistan. It aims to endorse dialogue across different sub-disciplines of linguistics. The mission of GLS is to assist the advancement of knowledge and understanding regarding the language-related issues. GLS encourages its members and provides them opportunities to participate and present their research work in national and international conferences on languages. GLS also organizes an annual seminar, which includes at least two invited two renowned speakers and discussion forums for discussion of linguistics issues.
GLS’s membership is open to anyone; however, graduate students particularly are encouraged to join and to be involved with the activities of the society.
On November 20, 2014 an Urdu and English Declamation Contest (with the prize money of Rs. 20,000) under the title of Allama Iqbal Shield was organized by the GIFT Debating Society.
The declamation contest was arranged on the directions of Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan. The Winners of this Declamation Contest further participated in the Regional Declamation Contest held in Lahore.
Awareness Program for Breast Cancer
GIFT University organized an event “Pink Ribbon Day” for the awareness of Breast Cancer with the collaboration of HEC. This event was organized by GIFT Character Building Society (GCBS) which arranged many activities to engage students in this awareness program. The chief guest of the inaugural ceremony was Dr. Qaiser Shehryar Durrani, Rector of GIFT University who cut the Pink Ribbon to start different activities.
Students participated in awareness walk with banners, posters and chart papers to defeat Breast Cancer and to save the lives of 40,000 women dying every year.
University campus was decorated with pink flags, ribbons, pink and white balloons and a front desk was also decorated with pink theme. Pamphlets and pink ribbons were distributed and members of GCBS collected donation for the breast cancer hospital.
Students also formed a pink ribbon shape to support the pink ribbon campaign against breast cancer. A seminar for females also arranged to create awareness among girls about the detection, reasons, symptoms and prevention of breast cancer.
GIFT Literary Society (GLS) had organized the mesmerizing and enchanting event of versification entitled Sham-e Sukhan, the second annual Mushaira, on the eve of 23rd November 2015 at GIFT University, Gujranwala.
The program commenced with the recitation of the Holy verses of Quran. Abid Hussain Abid, Hussain Shams from Lahore and Shehzad Nayyar from Islamabad along with many other poets from Gujranwala and its outskirts such as Muhammad Tayyab, Zafar Mansoor, Munir Asari, Ansar Ali Ansar, Tanvir Qazi, Sheeraz Sagar, Shahid Feroz, Kamran Wasal, Afzal Siraj and Zahid Hussain were invited to present their poetry.
The Mushaira was presided over by Saadat Saeed, a renowned poet and literary critic from Lahore, however, Tehmina Shafi, a university student of MA English, and Mateen Kaif, a young poet and radio anchor hosted the program. Many student poets of the University also participated in the Mushaira and recited their poetry. It was for the first time in the history of GIFT University that GLS has organized a great literary program in collaboration with Progressive Writers Association (PWA), Gujranwala, a professional body of literary persons. The event proved to be a great source of manifestation of creativity for the students. Finally, the event was culminated with the final words of thanks by Prof. Dr. Qaisar Shehryar Durrani, Rector, GIFT University.
GIFT University wants to see its students as a helping hand for society so that they may be able to serve their nation. GIFT Blood Donation Society’s main objective is to build database of potential blood donors and channelize the blood donation system in the city.
We want to create awareness of donating blood and conducting health awareness programs. Our society members motivate students to donate blood and also keep contact between needy and volunteer blood donors. We already have developed a strong liaison with other foundations that are doing their best in blood donation and provision like Sundas Foundation.
